The first step in fulfilling a monumental commission like this is the sculpting of the “maquette” (a small version of the piece). Then creating a "mid-size study at 11' in length. This allows Jon to make design decisions in a larger piece before sculpting the full size monument.

Using the 11' study as a guide, Jon sculpted the final enlargement in his studio, which he designed with a 30' ceiling, to accommodate enlargements of this size.
