| WILMINGTON, DELAWARE
Jon beat out more than 40 sculptors from the United States, Europe and South America to win the Clifford Brown Sculpture Commission from the city of Wilmington, Delaware. Brown was a native of Wilmington, a legendary jazz trumpet player whose life was cut short in a tragic accident.
In their letter announcing the appointment, The Selection Committee wrote: “With great honor and pleasure, we would like to announce that your sculpture has been selected for the Clifford Brown Sculpture Project. Your capable talent and the ability to capture Clifford Brown the way he played the horn, his body style with the shoulders shrugged, totally and instantaneously captivated the Committee.
Also, the Committee was ecstatic about your ability to vision a better site location for the sculpture that will capture a greater audience of both pedestrian and motor vehicular traffic. The Committee was very impressed with the arched metal sign.”
The sculpture is a work in progress and scheduled for installation in October.
