Fort Smith, Arkansas

It all began in October of 2008 when UA Fort Smith put out a national call for artists to compete for a commission to create a monumental sculpture of the school’s lion mascot. After six months of evaluation and deliberation, three finalists were selected to make their presentations on the University’s beautiful 168 acre campus, nestled in the heart of the Arkansas River Valley.

It took just 3 days for the 20 member Art Selection Committee to make their decision.

Jon’s lion sculpture (shown here) will be installed at the entrance to The Joel and Barbara Stubblefield Center. This state-of-art, 3,100-seat venue performance space is an anchor for the cultural life of both the campus and the city and the home of UA Athletics.
