| CHARLOTTE, NC – A project to create a sculpture of the world’s largest bronze
hawk is currently underway in Jon’s studio.
After several trips to a local raptor center for reference photography, the
smaller maquette sculpture began to take shape. Wing patterns from an actual
hawk were also used to ensure anatomical accuracy of the sculpture.
Hawks are birds of prey. They have strong, hooked beaks; their feet have three
toes pointed forward and one turned back; and their claws, or talons, are long,
curved and very sharp. The eyesight of a hawk is 8 times as powerful as a
human's.
This piece is scheduled for installation Spring of 2006.
