The first step in fulfilling a monumental commission is the sculpting of the “maquette.” This is a small version of the piece which is shown here at the top of the page.

Jon is shown below, sculpting a mid-size study at 11 feet long. This allowed him to make design decisions in a large piece before sculpting the full size enlargement.
